2016 Necrology III

Dan Hicks‘ departure from this world was lost in the lingering foofaraw over David Bowie’s.1 It’s a shame, because Hicks was to me the more enjoyable artist and much more fun to listen to. Would Bowie ever have written a tune like “How Can I Miss You When You Won’t Go Away?”

(The last tune was written by Ross “David Seville” Bagdasarian and William “My Name Is Aram” Saroyan. In 1951 it was a hit for Rosemary Clooney, who hated it. Hicks installed the wall-to-wall carpeting.)

Notes

  1. I don’t mean to pick on Bowie in my year-end notes. He was pretty good, sometimes very good. If you’ve never listened to Hunky Dory, check it out. But I never mooned over him the way critics did.

  1. I was going to say “Tell us how you really feel about Bowie”, but as usual you beat me to the punch.

    Happy New Year.

P.S. You forgot to mention George Michael.;)
