Annual task

As this lousy year nears its end, it’s time to shop for next year’s calendar. I looked for Japanese anime calendars and found a number worth considering. These are some that caught my eye.

Hozuki

Hozuki no Reitetsu

Sweetness and Lighning

Hatsune Miku

Miku

Racing Miku1

High School Fleet

Gintama

Cardcaptor Sakura

Ho ho ho ho

Warau Salesman

Girls und Panzer

Natsume Yuujin-cho

Tanaka-kun Is Always Listless

Madoka Magica

Hosoda

Mamoru Hosoda

Osamu Tezuka

Totoro

Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto

your name.

There are plenty more at the site.

Anime calendars are usually (but not always) formatted differently than other calendars. Instead of twelve pages a foot square, there are six poster-sized sheets, one for every two months.

Some occidental favorites I’m considering include Edward Gorey, Kliban Cats and Volcanoes.

Notes

  1. See the history of Racing Miku here.

  1. I have freebees that come with some of the British craft-magazines I buy, but I can’t get used to the EU (?) custom of having Sunday as the last day of the week rather than the first.

I haven’t bought a calendar in years, though that does mean I have to take what I get. (Mercy Corps sends me one for donating; it is my office calendar. I usually get one from the school I attended for grad school for similar reasons. And I think NWF sends them to me HOPING I will donate….)
