All make their back issues available for download.<\/p>\n<p><i><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cactusexplorers.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cactus Explorers<\/a><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.essexsucculentreview.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Essex Succulent Review<\/a><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><b><a href=\"http:\/\/xerophilia.ro\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Xerophila<\/a><\/b><\/i> \u2014 a bilingual magazine, in Romanian and English. You may need to download the PDFs to read them; viewed online, the text in one language is overlaid on top of the other, making it unreadable.<span id='easy-footnote-1-41887' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='http:\/\/shuffly.net\/zoop\/more-spiny-things\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-41887' title='This happens in both Safari and Brave on my Mac. It might work better in other browsers.'><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> <em>Special Issue #5, February 2015<\/em>, is of particular interest. It&#8217;s devoted to the volcanic Rangitoto and White Islands in New Zealand:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230; Claude Sarich, a sulphur miner working on White Island in 1931\u201332, left a vivid description: &#8220;The worst hell on earth, a place where rocks exploded in the intense heat, where men had to wear wool instead of cotton because cotton just fell apart in just a couple of hours, where they had to clean their teeth at least three times a day because their teeth went black, and where the land shook violently and regularly sending rocks flying through the air&#8221;.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><i><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.schuetziana.org\/index.php\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sch\u00fctziana<\/a><\/b><\/i> \u2014 Devoted to the genus <em>Gymnocalycium<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It may be expensive to skim through these, or <a href=\"https:\/\/succulentsundae.blogspot.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Succulent Sundae<\/a>, while your browser is open to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mesagarden.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mesa Garden<\/a> seed lists.<\/p>\n<p>Addendum: A curious historical note from a <a href=\"http:\/\/gaertnerei.kakteen-haage.de\/geschichte\/walther-haage\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">biography<\/a> of German cactus grower Walther Haage:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In the Third Reich the \u201cnon-Aryan\u201d cactus had to live underneath the tables.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I came across a few free online cactus and succulent journals.
