{"id":451,"date":"2008-02-03T17:28:14","date_gmt":"2008-02-03T23:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tancos.net\/wp\/2008\/02\/03\/princesses-and-knights\/"},"modified":"2008-02-03T17:28:14","modified_gmt":"2008-02-03T23:28:14","slug":"princesses-and-knights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/shuffly.net\/zoop\/princesses-and-knights\/","title":{"rendered":"Princesses and knights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src='http:\/\/shuffly.net\/zoop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/yucie02.jpg' alt='yucie02.jpg' \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been studying yet another treatise on father-daughter dynamics, <strong><em>Petite Princess Yucie<\/em><\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/denbeste.nu\/Chizumatic\/reviews\/PetitePrincessYucie.shtml\">Steven liked it<\/a> and it sounded promising, so I ordered it last week, along with <strong><em>Magic Knight Rayearth TV<\/em><\/strong> (which Jonathan Tappan <a href=\"http:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/2006\/10\/06\/magic-knight-rayearth-tv-anime-review\/\">reviewed positively<\/a>). I&#8217;ve watched four of the five discs in the thinpak and will probably finish tonight or tomorrow evening. It is pretty good \u2014 it already has the distinction of being the first Gainax series that I watched more than the first disc of \u2014 and if it ends well, it will be a show I can recommend to almost everyone.<\/p>\n<p>The primary pleasure is in the characters and their interactions, but there is much else to enjoy, such as the utterly terrifying Demon world.<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/shuffly.net\/zoop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/yucie01.jpg' alt='yucie01.jpg' \/><\/p>\n<p>Update: Finished it: thumbs up. I may write more later, but I&#8217;m going to be away from the computer for a few days.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nThere&#8217;s also architecture from fairy tales<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/shuffly.net\/zoop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/yucie07.jpg' alt='yucie07.jpg' \/><\/p>\n<p>and M.C. Escher<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/shuffly.net\/zoop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/yucie03.jpg' alt='yucie03.jpg' \/><\/p>\n<p>and interesting flora and fauna.<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/shuffly.net\/zoop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/yucie04.jpg' alt='yucie04.jpg' \/><\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/shuffly.net\/zoop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/yucie05.jpg' alt='yucie05.jpg' \/><\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/shuffly.net\/zoop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/yucie06.jpg' alt='yucie06.jpg' \/><\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>I enjoyed <strong><em>Angelic Layer<\/em><\/strong>, and <strong><em>Cardcaptor Sakura<\/em><\/strong> was even better, so I figured it would be worthwhile to check out some of the other CLAMP-based anime. <strong><em>Rayearth<\/em><\/strong> antedates the other two by several years, and the first episode does seem more primitive in every respect. In particular, the characters thus far are mostly stereotypes. Perhaps as the series continues, Hikaru, Fuu and Umi will gain some depth, but right now they are the <a href=\"http:\/\/tvtropes.org\/pmwiki\/pmwiki.php\/Main\/GenkiGirl\"><em>genki<\/em> girl<\/a>, the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/tvtropes.org\/pmwiki\/pmwiki.php\/Main\/Meganekko\">meganekko<\/a><\/em> and the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/tvtropes.org\/pmwiki\/pmwiki.php\/Main\/Ojou\">ojou<\/a><\/em> and little more.
