The first episode of Kuragehime<\/a><\/b><\/i> is promising. Most of the characters are asocial, obsessive “hardcore female nerds,” an appealing demographic. ((None of them is an anime otaku.)) Although one of the leads is a trap, the episode is completely devoid of fanservice; ((in the usual panties-and-boobs sense. If you’re into jellyfish, there’s plenty.)) the writers are interested in comedy, not titillation. None of the characters are moeblobs, and they all have noses. The opening, which parodies movies from James Bond flicks to Mary Poppins<\/b><\/i>, indicates an emphasis on playfulness.<\/p>\n

<\/param><\/param><\/param><\/object><\/center><\/p>\n

The crew looks competent. The director earlier worked on Baccano<\/b><\/i>, Natsume Yujin-Cho<\/b><\/i> and Haibane Renmei<\/b><\/i>; the series composition guy worked on Petite Princess Yucie<\/b><\/i>; and, the composer wrote the scores for Baccano<\/b><\/i> and Natsume Yujin-Cho<\/b><\/i>.<\/p>\n

The second episode is due out tomorrow on the Funimation<\/a> site. If it’s as good as the first, I’ll keep watching.<\/p>\n
