If so, this could be more than interesting on the densely-populated island. Agung&#8217;s 1963 eruption was VEI5, i.e., at least as large as Mt. St. Helen&#8217;s in 1980. It has some noteworthy neighbors nearby on the <a href=\"http:\/\/volcano.si.edu\/region.cfm?rn=6\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sunda arc<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1257_Samalas_eruption\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rinjani<\/a> is visible from Agung&#8217;s summit when the weather is clear. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1815_eruption_of_Mount_Tambora\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tambora<\/a> is a bit further east.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, there is a <a href=\"https:\/\/vanuatudigest.com\/2017\/09\/25\/ambae-volcano-vanuatu-government-declares-state-of-emergency\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">state of emergency on Ambae in Vanuatu<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gunung Agung on Bali may be ramping up to an eruption.
