I came across yet another damned book meme<\/a> over at Robbo’s, and I thought that adapting it for anime might be a pleasant way of spending a lunch hour.<\/p>\n

\u2022 What anime are you watching now?<\/i><\/p>\n

The only current series I’m following is Macademi Wasshoi<\/b><\/i>, and if there are more episodes like the fifth, I’ll drop it, too.<\/p>\n

\u2022 What is your favourite time to watch?<\/i><\/p>\n

Evenings, after dinner.<\/p>\n

\u2022 And your favourite place?<\/i><\/p>\n

The only available place is the uncomfortable chair at the computer.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Who is your favourite auteur?<\/i><\/p>\n

The snap answer is either Yoshitoshi ABe (Haibane Renmei<\/b><\/i>) or Mitsuo Iso (Denno Coil<\/b><\/i>). However, each has really only one show to his credit. ((Lain<\/b><\/i> was a group effort, and while NieA_7<\/b><\/i> is based on characters created by ABe, someone else wrote the scripts.)) Perhaps Junichi Sato<\/a> or Akitaro Daichi<\/a>, or maybe Masaaki Yuasa<\/a>? I think I’ll go with Satoshi Kon<\/a> for now.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Your favourite OST?<\/i><\/p>\n

Still Haibane Renmei<\/b><\/i>‘s, though that of Oh! Edo Rocket<\/b><\/i>, swing ripoff though it is, has been frequent listening for over a year now.<\/p>\n

\u2022 What is the most difficult anime you\u2019ve ever watched?<\/i><\/p>\n

Serial Experiments Lain<\/b><\/i>. I could also mention Angel’s Egg<\/a><\/b><\/i> and Cat Soup<\/b><\/i>, but I don’t think either adds up to much more than what you see. (I read somewhere that Oshii himself doesn’t remember what everything signifies in the former.) ((Incidentally, Angel’s Egg<\/b><\/i> is the reason I started downloading torrents. I had read about it and was very curious, but there was no legal way to watch it.))<\/p>\n

Shonen Sarutobi Sasuke<\/a><\/b><\/i>, in the theatre in Brigham City, Utah, on a Saturday afternoon with my girlfriend Gloria a long, long time ago. Many years later came Princess Mononoke<\/b><\/i>.

Not Divergence Eve<\/b><\/i>. Nothing much comes to mind; that’s not what I look for.<\/p>\n

Monster<\/b><\/i>, I suppose, or Legend of Galactic Heroes<\/b><\/i>.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Which series did you never want to end?<\/i><\/p>\n

A good episodic series like Mushishi<\/b><\/i> or Galaxy Angel A<\/b><\/i> could be spun out indefinitely as long as the creators have ideas, but in general, a show isn’t good unless it ends well.<\/p>\n

\u2022 What is your most overrated anime?<\/i><\/p>\n

Neon Genesis Evangelion<\/b><\/i>. I watched the first disc, and that’s two hours of my life wasted that I’ll never get back.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Which character could you have an affair with?<\/i><\/p>\n

This isn’t the sort of thing I fantasize about lest I end up like Sidney Kugelmass, but perhaps Lexshue from Crest of the Stars<\/b><\/i>.<\/p>\n

Isako, from Denno Coil<\/b><\/i>.<\/p>\n
