It doesn’t look like it needs any work, in the top picture. What are they doing?
Repairs and upgrades, adding wheelchair ramps, that sort of thing. The cathedral gets remodeled periodically as architectural fashions change. This particular renovation is more thoroughgoing than most, but it’s not really all that unusual.
