Horticulturally, this year is running about three weeks slower than last year. Plants that were in full bloom a year ago are just coming into bud now. Nevertheless, I did find some color yesterday on my first visit to Botanica this year.
Inside the main building there was an african violet show. The light was wretchedly flat, and the pictures I took there are among the dullest I’ve ever shot. (The morbidly curious can see them here. ) Still, there were a few images of other gesneriads that are perhaps worth posting here.
Break-up is starting here. The roads have been wet, the sun warm and temperatures are up around 32 degrees. I still have about 6 weeks before I start to see green emerging from the brown around my yard.
The Canada Geese will be here in about 2 weeks, along with the Greater Fronted Geese, Mallards, Golden Eyes, Mergansers, Buffle Heads, Robins, Juncos, Warblers, Swallows, Sparrows. ect. My two Great-Horned Owls are around every evening.
