So Flannery O’Connor was an irredeemable racist and must be expunged from our culture? Here’s “Revelation,” one of her last stories. Read it, and judge for yourself.

Heh. I have spent years trying to nerve myself up to read O’Connor. Her reputation for insight, erudition, and acid wit quite intimidates me and I hate to think of her looking down in contempt as I blunder my casual, half-wit way through her work. It’s quite the hang-up.
Make of that what you will.
Don’t be afraid. She may seem intimidating, but her saving grace is that she is also very funny.
I had a high school English teacher who was a big fan of O’Connor and thanks to her, I read Wise Blood and The Violent Bear It Away. I enjoy O’Connor and I admit some frustration at the “that author is now Bad, and this author is now Bad” and O’Conner herself would probably argue we’re all fallen and sinful and therefore all susceptible to “cancellation”….though she also allows for the possibility of redemption and forgiveness, something modern culture seems to have forgotten.
