I discovered that the local community college has a well-maintained garden which includes a good selection of prairie plants and others adapted to Kansas extremes.1
I was particularly interested in the Penstemons, some of which are native to Kansas. I started a few from seed this year, but mine probably won’t bloom until next year.
And then there was this curious thing:
A couple up the street from me have an enormous garden in their yard, which I visited with camera in hand this weekend.
Both gardens will be worth many return trips. There are more pictures here.
