That’s 59 altogether. I’ll run three rounds of 19, 20 and 20, and the seven top finishers in each round will go on to the final round of 21.

If I wait until I have pictures of every candidates, it will be next year before I start the poll. Therefore, I’m beginning the first round tonight, and I’ll post the pictures when I have them all.

I have a some questions about the candidates in the remaining rounds. First, I am informed that Yoko is 14 at the beginning of Gurren-Lagann. Does she remain 14 through the series, or does she reach an eligible age? And how old is Akane in Ranma 1/2? And Shampoo? Also, there are four nominations from Love Hina. I have no problem with the three from Crest of the Stars because that was an exceptional series, but I am skeptical that there are four worthy babes in LH. Do all four deserve nominations, and if not, who does?

I’m allowing Horo even though she has the human form of a 15-year-old. I figure that her centuries as a wolf goddess count for at least one additional year.

You can vote for up to three candidates in each round.

Addendum: Oh, yeah, about the previous poll: I had expected that Neon Genesis Evangelion would win easily, and it did take an early lead. However, Naruto soon caught up and eventually won the title “most overrated anime,” 35% to 31%. Bleach was a distant third at 15%, followed by The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann and ef: a tale of memories. A total of 199 votes were cast.

Congratulations to Pete, who submitted the 500th comment to The Kawaii Menace.

For those keeping track: the first vote cast in the new poll was for Kan’u Unchou.

Update: Has anyone besides Ubu had trouble voting for more than one? If so, then please either list the other candidates you would have voted for in a comment or send me an email (tancos [at] tancos (dot) net; be sure to include the word “poll” in the heading so I don’t delete it as spam), and I’ll make adjustments.

Update II: I made a change to the template (which should have not been necessary, grrr), and you should be able to vote for multiple candidates now. If it still doesn’t work, let me know, and I’ll bang my head against the wall some more. (If you’ve already voted for one, want to vote for one or two more candidates, and haven’t mentioned them in the comments here, feel free to visit here with a different browser and vote for the others. Given the circumstances, I won’t regard it as cheating.)

  1. I cannot believe that Musubi made it into nominations ahead of Tsukiumi. That’s just… unfair. Who is the babe here?

  2. I only voted for one. Oops. Then again…Lafiel’s the only one in this round I feel strong enough about anyway. No harm done.

  3. Yoko does indeed start at 14 in the Tenge Toppa Gurren Lagaan anime but after a significant time skip we next meet her as a school teacher so I do think she passed the “eligible age” criteria during the show’s run.

Shampoo’s actual age is never revealed if memory serves me right. However if we assume that she legally works at the Nekohanten then she’s old enough to qualify for an employment pass. Wikipedia lists her age as 16 as well.

The Love Hina girls were created to appeal to different audiences and the four nominated are specifically the elder supporting cast. Haruka is the Cool Big Sis with a laconic attitude and her own megaton punch. Its implied that she and Seta were pretty much yesteryear’s Naru and Keitaro. Mutsumi is the ditz with surprisingly good intuition that was created to be a female Keitaro. Mitsune is basically Misato Katsuragi with no day job. Tsukuro is the Yamato Nadesiko, classic Japanese beauty with a hint of yandere thrown in. Whether they are worthy candidates is, I think entirely up to your taste like so much of Love Hina. Pity they never animated the last volume or I’d write in Adult Shinobu.

  4. Well, you’d have to pull every Ikkitousen character out of the contest, as they’re all still in High School.

Rushuna Tendo from Grenadier is 16. Tessa Testarossa (Full Metal Panic series) is 17. Mai from Kanon ’06 is “a third-year student”, so 17 or 18. Heck, Lina Inverse (Slayers) is only 15 in the first series.

    Hm.

  5. Oops, just noticed Ryoko was in this round too. Damn, I did miss out by not voting for more than one character. Oh well.

  6. There’s a 7-year time skip in the middle of Gurren Lagann, so Yoko is definitely eligible.

  7. Had trouble voting for more than one candidate. Voted for Faye Valentine this round, and wanted to also vote for Lum and Urd.

  8. It only let me select one (which I sort of expected, since it looked like a ‘radio button’ selection form). I voted for Ryoko, but wanted to add Yomiko Readman and Faye Valentine.

(So much for anonymous ballots. *chuckle*)

  9. At work now and tested (without voting); can still select only one.
When I voted, it was for Luxandra, would have picked Misato Katsuragi. My third vote is so impossible to figure out, I’m going to skip it. (It was between Faye, Kanu, & Rushuna, with Lafiel and Urd as dark horses)

  10. Please add votes for Kan’u and Lafiel from me. (I tried with a different browser, but the poll still came up as having already voted.)

  11. Sorry, but I just have to add that I absolutely love my avatar. Go, one-eyed, lavender kitty-beholder!

  12. Add Kan-u Unchou and Yomiko Readman to my vote for Alpha… yes, it only let me vote for one. In fact, it still only is letting me vote for one.

  13. It looks like your voting code is keeping track of IPs. I tried visiting with a different browser and it still shows me as having voted. (Once.)

I could probably visit through a proxy, but that really would be foul.

  14. I’ve adjusted the totals, so the numbers should be up-to-date as of now. If anyone else wanted to vote for two or three but couldn’t, please leave a comment here, and I’ll edit the voting as necessary.

That is a rather kawaii avater, ss monsters go, Griffin.
