The final round

The top ten finishers in the fist round of the “best opening” poll were pretty much the ones I would have predicted (though I did expect a better performance from Azumanga Daioh). Cowboy Bebop took a clear first place when voters could choose three. Will it still be the winner when the voters can only choose one?

  1. The “problem” with any poll like this is it’s a popularity contest, either explicitly (as you said, people voting for their favorite show), or implicitly (since part of this particular question is “how well does the music & graphics represent the show”, you can really only vote for a show you’ve seen.)

Thus, long-running-on-Adult-Swim shows seem to do disproportionately well in these polls, since they’ve got the largest pool of voters.

Though (not-on-TV) Lucky Star and (not-on-TV and out-of-print-on-DVD) Haibane Renmei are currently making a good showing here…

(I didn’t vote for Tank… the OP makes me think “classic Bond flick”–mostly the sliding silhouette graphics–and the show ain’t that.)

  2. I didn’t vote in the first round for just that reason, I’d only seen a small percentage of the selected shows and didn’t have the time to go to my shelf and re-watch openings, so it would just have been a matter of which show did I like best.

For this round, I watched all the embedded openings, and Cowboy Bebop was the clear winner for me, even though Tank isn’t one of my favorite songs.
