If you ride a bicycle, be sure to wear a helmet. The main dangers are inattentive and irresponsible drivers (and occasionally hostile ones — I could tell you some stories), but there are other threats. While I was out taking these pictures, something hit my head. I thought at first it was a rock, but then I saw what looked like a hawk flying away. Apparently I had come too close to its nest, and it attacked. If I had not been wearing a helmet, I would have returned home with a bloody scalp.
